This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Old Black Cat Jazz Club - rides again

Despite the good turn out for jazz inspired concerts at the Fire Station and the Michael Young Trio's monthly gig at the adjoining Engine Room, jazz venues in Sunderland tend to be of an ephemeral nature - now you see 'em, now you don't

Such was the case with the Old Black Cat Jazz Club which opened at 1719 last year amid much hope and optimism. Unfortunately, those hopes were dashed and another one bit the dust.

Or so we thought until the news was made public that the old black cat hasn't yet used up all of its nine lives and on Friday June 20 the club, now at the Minster, presents the Alexia Gardner Quintet.

Alexia has been making waves at both home and abroad. With her stellar line-up of the north east's finest a treat is in store. Lance
