This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Leading Light of The UK Jazz Revival Binker Golding Heads to Middlesbrough This Weekend

The award-winning saxophonist and leading light in London’s thriving Jazz scene, Binker Golding is set to perform in Teesside this month as part of his European tour.

Binker Golding and his band will be headlining an afternoon of genre-bending contemporary jazz at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Sunday 17th November.

UK Jazz has been undergoing an exciting revival over the past few years with young musicians bringing something truly new and unique to the genre. London-based Binker Golding has been at the forefront of this movement since his breakthrough as one half of the MOBO Award winning duo, ‘Binker and Moses’, along with fellow musician and drummer Moses Boyd.

As a duo, Golding and Boyd made a name for themselves for their intense, virtuosic performances, earning themselves the Parliamentary Jazz Award for best breakthrough act along with accolades from the likes of Jazz FM and The Guardian.
Following a sold-out launch party at the iconic Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in September, Golding released his latest solo album, ‘Abstractions of Reality Past & Incredible Feathers’ to critical acclaim.
Joining Binker is the up and coming electronic-soul trio, Noya Rao. Fresh out of Leeds College of Music, the band have earned support from tastemakers including Gilles Peterson and Jamie Cullum. Support comes from local rising talent The Francis Tulip Quartet.

Speaking ahead of the show, lead programmer Ros Rigby said:
“These are all incredible musicians who are keen for their music to appeal to a broad audience.

“Every music form needs to develop and involve younger musicians, which is why we chose to invite bands from the younger generation. They’re all great examples of how jazz as a genre is moving forward.”

The Sunday afternoon show is part of Middlesbrough Town Hall’s ambitious programme of jazz, taking place each month. Be sure to stay tuned for the Town Hall’s future jazz concerts, including Paul Edis’ Jazzy Christmas (Dec 15th), Burns Night Jazz Special (19th January), Arun Ghosh (Feb 16th) and Nikki Iles Orchestra (March 29th).

Binker Golding (ft. Noya Rao and the Francis Tulip Qartet) will perform at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Sunday 17th November from 2pm.

Tickets can be purchased for £12 (subject to the normal booking fees) and all under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.
