This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Tonite (Sunday15)! Blaydon's Big Birthday Bash!

The Black Bull in Blaydon is a good place to be tonight. Blaydon Jazz Club is celebrating its 35th anniversary presenting the very best of jazz. Down the years some of the finest musicians on the British jazz scene have graced the stage at the welcoming community pub (and, for a few years, at other nearby venues). The roll call is a long one, here's just a few of them...Bruce Turner, John (Johnny) Barnes, Roy Williams, Vasilis Xenopoulos, and then there is the home-grown local talent...Billy Harper, Paul Booth and Bradley Johnston. 

World class trumpeter Bruce Adams is this evening's guest star and the genial, frequently side-splittingly funny, Scotsman will be working with three familiar names - the brilliant Paul Edis, piano, the equally brilliant Andy Champion, bass, and ace drummer Russ Morgan. 
The action gets under way at 7:30pm, it's a tenner on the door (see Blaydon Jazz Club supremo Roly Veitch at the bar!) and the beer (typically Deuchars) is reasonably priced. If you've yet to make it along to the Black Bull - where have you been?! - then tonight would be a good time to break your duck! On-street parking is available (Sat Nav NE21 4JJ) and it's a mere five minutes' walk from Blaydon Bus Station. Frequent bus services to Gateshead, Hexham and Newcastle make the Bridge Street hostelry easy to get to/from. Right then...telly off, coat on, this is one gig you simply cannot afford to miss!
