Michael Janisch’s Paradigm Shift project can be heard
in concert on Jazz Line-Up at five
o’clock Saturday afternoon (Radio 3). His band includes Paul Booth and Jason
Yarde. A midnight date with Charles Mingus awaits in Geoffrey Smith’s Jazz, also on Radio 3. On Sunday (Oct 4) BBC 4
television shows two programmes of interest; Jazz Piano Gold is an archivist’s dream with Basie, Ellington, Monk
and many others to be seen on screen. A midnight
date with Georgie Fame: the Birth of Cool
follows.
Monday’s edition of Jazz on 3 (Radio 3, 11:00pm) marks the recent death of John
Taylor.
In the first of four programmes, Earth Wind and Fire
percussionist Ralph Johnson revisits the Los Angeles of his youth to look at the
round-the-clock jazz radio stations available at the turn of a dial in Ralph Johnson: Jazz Epicenter 6.7 on
Radio 2, Wednesday 10:00pm.
