This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview - Claire Martin @ Sage Gateshead Monday September 22

Claire Martin OBE brings her wealth of experience as a jazz vocalist into a brand new arena with the Brighton based Montpellier Cello Quartet. This exciting new venture combines her love of the Great American Songbook and popular classics with brand new arrangements especially commissioned for this project by internationally renowned composers including Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, Mark Anthony Turnage and Django Bates.
Unlike anything Claire has ever done before, this chamber/jazz adventure promises to be a magical fusion that brings a new sonic perspective to songs such as Kurt Weills’ ‘My Ship’, Gershwin’s ‘My Man’s Gone Now’ and Lennon and McCartneys’ ‘She’s Leaving Home’.
The above blurb from Sage Gateshead's website is a fair summing up of a singer who has thrilled Sage audiences many times in recent years and invariably in a different format each time. Whether sharing the stage with Ian Shaw, doing Beatles' songs with Joe Stilgoe, or in duo form with the late Sir Richard Rdoney Bennett  (pictured with Claire) my favourite OBE never disappoints and next Monday's performance with the Montpellier Quartet promises to raise the bar even higher'.
