Bebop Spoken There

Emma Rawicz: "In a couple of years I've gone from being a normal university student to suddenly being on international stages." DownBeat January 2026.

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Cécile Mclorin Salvant live web stream from Ronnie Scott's Tonight May 28 - 9pm (BST)!!!

Last July, Ronnie Scott’s took a concert from jazz legend Wynton Marsalis to a World-Wide audience with their debut live-stream in association with The Guardian newspaper. The broadcast was a huge success with over 20,000 people tuning into watch the jazz great’s massively over-subscribed London show. Now TONIGHT Ronnie’s are delighted to announce their second live-stream featuring rising star jazz vocal great Cécile McLorin Salvant.
Her full performance on Wed 28th May is to be broadcast live to a global audience.  Thanks to the power of the internet and a ground breaking partnership with Panasonic, a world-wide audience will be given an unparalleled opportunity to experience the famed ambience of one of the world’s most iconic venues, swinging to one of jazz’s most iconic stars, all in stunning HD.
Tickets for her show sold out weeks ago primarily to club members, so, with demand for tickets to see the feted singer far out-stripping availability, Ronnie Scott’s are delighted to give this rare opportunity to those unable to secure tickets to enjoy the music and take a sneak peak inside one of the world’s most iconic venues.
As expected from Ronnie Scott’s the technical set-up will be of high end, with a state -of-the art multi camera AV set-up alongside a broadcast and recording studio installed in the historic Frith Street venue. The broadcast will be shot using discreetly positioned Panasonic integrated remote video cameras and at least one handheld (the same used by the BBC for HD recording).  Meanwhile the club’s AV team will mix the audio/visual stream live, broadcasting in-the-moment  vivid high definition images onto screens and into home across the globe.  This remarkably sophisticated multi-camera set up – undoubtedly one of the best in the world for a club of this size -  allows low-light filming of multiple positions giving viewers a genuine impression of being amidst the live audience and a real feeling for the intimate atmosphere of one of the world’s greatest jazz clubs - all without detracting from the experience of those lucky enough to have a ticket to the show.
Access to the broadcast is free.
Viewers will simply need to log onto the club’s website www.ronniescotts.co.uk at 9pm BST on Wednesday 28th May.

Yes, Cécile is quite something. Doubt if we'll entice her back to Whitley Bay again...

Couldn't agree more - Flore. Piano of course was Aaron Diehl, Paul Sikivie on bass and Peter Van Nostrand, drums.
