Some good and bad news from the New Century Ragtime Orchestra!

(From Phil Rutherford).
The bad news first – sadly our gig at Darlington’s New Orleans Jazz Club on Saturday 7 June is postponed until next year.  It’s not the jazz club’s fault, as the premises have been double booked by the church, and an alternative venue isn’t available.
So apologies for our non-appearance in Darlington this year, but we hope to be making good this omission with a new date next year which I’ll confirm as soon as I can.
However, there’s good news as well!  Earlier this year, we recorded only our second CD in ten years, provisionally entitled “Singing in the Bathtub”, which we hope to have available on sale very soon – further details as soon as I have them.
Our next appearance will be at the Kirkcudbright Jazz Festival on the weekend of 14 & 15 June.  We’re playing at the Town Hall on Saturday evening, 7.00 – 9.20pm, and again on Sunday afternoon, 3.00 – 5.15pm.
If you haven’t visited charming Kirkcudbright before, you’ll be very impressed by this friendly, long-established and well-organised traditional jazz festival – further details available at www.kirkcudbrightjazzfestival.co.uk.
We’ll also be appearing at the Mouth of the Tyne Festival in (hopefully sunny) Tynemouth on Sunday 13 July, with two outdoor sets at 1.00pm and 4.00pm on the jazz stage on Tynemouth’s Front Street – and it’s free!
Then we have a special treat lined up at Gateshead’s Caedmon Hall on Thursday 17 July (concert starts at 7.30pm) where we’re delighted to be performing alongside two international stars of jazz piano – Stephanie Trick (USA) and Paulo Alderighi (Italy).
Stephanie and Paulo have been performing together since 2010 across the USA, Europe and Japan, and this is one of their very rare UK appearances.  Stephanie performs in the ragtime, stride and boogie woogie styles of Fats Waller and James P Johnson whereas Paulo focuses on the music of Erroll Garner, Earl Hines and Teddy Wilson.  Stephanie and Paulo will be performing solo, duo, and with the band, and it promises to be a very memorable concert indeed.  Try looking them up on YouTube for a sneak preview!
Phil.
