Number 28 was crowded they were standing ten deep at the bar so we adjourned to The Bacchus where they were standing twenty deep at the bar. Finally, in the Duke of Wellington. the bar was more accessible so we managed a pint of Northumbrian Blonde.
Back to Number 28 where the crowd had thinned and the bar was visible.. San Miguel was the poison here and the Marko Paulo Quartet the antidote.
It was a good way to detox listening to four of the regions top players. Gowland has, no doubt, Met Miss Jones on many occasions and on this one he positively ravished her - I'm sure it was consensual - before handing her over to Williams who showed a little more tlc. Pope took her for a walk and Robertson exercised the Pal Joey philosophy "Treat a dame like a lady and a lady like a dame". the drummer adopted the latter approach and the lady didn't mind at all!
The rest of the set varied with a mix of esoteric meanderings, a fusion like piece and a number that reached out to the nether regions with no prisoners taken. It was a good set and I'd like to have stayed for the second but time and tide wait for no one and nor does the number 27 so it was goodbye to number 28 and hello to number 27.
