This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Lindsay Hannon Plus @ The Cherry Tree

Ask me to define Shangri-la and I suspect I may describe it as listening to Lindsay Hannon singing Autumn in New York whilst I'm eating the Cherry Tree Black Pudding, Crushed Swede, Caramelised Apples and Green Peppercorn starter. Alternatively I might opt for Rump Steak-Frites, Garlic Butter and Dressed Leaves as the accompaniment to You'd Be So Nice to Come Home to for my trip to Euphoria although the combination of Steamed Treacle Sponge and Vanilla Ice Cream with Stu Collingwood's solo on Bye Bye Blackbird would also tickle the taste buds both musically and gastronomically.
Truth is it was an evening where good food and good music met head on in the most delightful way.
Stuart Collingwood was depping for James Harrison who had an away game and, needless to say, Stu played a blinder. John Pope and Mark Robertson  were the salt and pepper adding the piquancy required to move the music into the gourmet class.
Other numbers included; Our Love is Here to Stay, Comes Love, The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else, Some Other Time, The End of a Love Affair, Cheek to Cheek, Skylark, Stomping at the Savoy, I Wish I Were in Love Again, Blue Motel Room and I Can't Give You Anything But Love. Oh yes and, just as I was leaving - Why Try to Change me Now? Numero Uno with me!
Once again, the Cherry Tree has come up trumps.
Please note that next Monday, the Cherry Tree is booked for a private party so the jazz is on Tuesday April 9 and features the Paul Edis Trio plus the same chef - don't miss it!
