Horses For Courses was the expression that sprang to mind as The Pimptones sent the crowded Hoochie Coochie into orbit with their brand of jazz/funk/soul/blues - with even a splash of hip hop. The cool dudes in their slick grey suits looked and sounded perfectly in tune with their young(ish) audience and band and venue was truly a match made in heaven (or thereabouts).
On tenor, John Wheeler (depping for or replacing David Wilde?) had no problem getting to grips with the music if not the choreography - he blew some blistering solos. Likewise Keith Nicholson - I'd like to hear him on a pure jazz gig sometime. Leader Nick played some earthy blues and sang some too. Ian Paterson provided the fuel in the cellar whilst Oz Cassidy, who I thought was Adam Sinclair until I saw Adam Sinclair standing next to me at the bar!, drove things along ensuring nobody slept.
The icing on the cake was Susan Hamilton who belted it out like Tina Turner - impressed.
As an encore the boys jammed to a couple of voiceover tracks that kept the adrenalin (and the London Pride) flowing.
