Well not exactly. As reported in a previous post, William Claxton died earlier this week. However, today I wandered into a South Shields charity shop and, lo and behold, on the shelf before me, modestly priced at £3 , was a massive hard backed, 298 page book of the great man's photographs! For the past eighteen years we've been updating the world about jazz in the north east of England and updating the north east of England about jazz in the world. You have a penchant for bargains Lance which never fails to amaze me!This book sounds like a real "find"
Liz, this wasn't a "find"; I'm convinced it was "heaven sent". William Claxton died last Saturday in Los Angelos and this Saturday a book of his photos appears before me in South Shields. Probably the only copy in South Shields ever!
Spooky.
Spooky indeed, but perhaps you only noticed it because of his death last week..whatever... it will yours to treasure forever. I often find that when I come across a new word for instance, it just crops up time & time again. Changing the subject, I have just noticed that Clare Teal was on at our local Theatre Royal last night, & I missed it. Apparently that recording she did with the BBC Big Band at Scarboro' is due to be broadcast ( I think tomorrow night) check it out.
