Sad news that Don Fairley could not make it as he is recovering from another fall. We wish him well and hope he will have a quick recovery.
With three key players on holiday the “deps” all fitted in seamlessly. Paul Gowland made a fantastic job of soloing on Desafinado - Stan Getz would have been proud! Bob also did a stylish solo with Willow Weep for Me on flugel.
Olive brought out the best of Jeepers Creepers. Paul Smith featured on Caravan, equalling the high standards set by Tommy Graham and Ian Hetherington on this number at previous gigs.
I’ve not heard Neville Hartley do this number before and he fitted in perfectly.
Not the easiest of setups to launch a new number but the band worked their socks off with Bad Penny Blues (used as the basis for Lady Madonna by the Beatles.) Bob had his Humph hat on and Paul’s solo was original, outstanding and very memorable.
Not a bad turn out either for my fortnightly fix of jazz.
