This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. RIP Bunny Sigler

The news that Philadelphia soul singer Bunny Sigler has passed away comes as something of a shock. It was only this August that I enthusiastically reviewed his then newly released single Angel Eyes. That I don't normally review singles says much for this one and for Bunny Sigler. I was knocked out and eagerly looked forward to the album that it was to be part of.
Too little, too late, I should have checked him out years ago. Maybe not a jazz singer (whatever that is!) but he could handle a lyric with the best of them.
Bunny Sigler died on October 6. He was 76.

Quite a big deal on the Northern Soul scene though 'don't make me wait too long' is the only one I can think of at the moment. Was 'Follow your heart' him as well?
He was a jobbing singer and songwriter who did an album at Philly many rate so probably time to check it out.
I'm sure he wrote or co-wrote 'Giving it Back' for Phil Hurt, one of the last really soulful disco records.
