This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Guy Davis, The Cluny (Friday 2)

On Friday (2nd June) there's only one place to be and that's Cluny 2. Courtesy of Jumpin' Hot Club, promoters of all things Americana, blues and roots, bluesman Guy Davis makes a long overdue return visit to Newcastle. A two-time Grammy nominee, Davis (guitar, harmonica, vocals) is one those those 'been there, done that' characters, the man's cv is more than impressive. 

Actor, author (scriptwriter), musician, tutor, way back Davis worked with folk legend Pete Seeger, later sharing stages with the likes of John Hammond (long-time Jumpin' Hot Club gig-goers will remember fondly Hammond's gigs here on Tyneside), Taj Mahal and Bruce Springsteen. In addition, Davis has opened for no less than Chuck Berry, James Cotton and BB King. During lockdown Davis streamed 400 online shows (!), now back on the road, the Cluny 2 audience can expect to hear original material and a few numbers from some of the all-time greats, perhaps Blind Willie McTell, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, who knows? Get along to Lime Street tomorrow (Friday) to find out. 

Opening for Guy Davis will be the King Bees' frontmen Michael Littlefield (vocals, guitar) and Scott Taylor (vocals, harmonica). King Bees are the real deal Chicago blues band.
