R.I.P Ray Bryant

Just heard that pianist Ray Bryant has died age 79. I only heard him live once, back in the 1980s at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland, but was always impressed by the soulful blues elements in his playing. Ray's playing somehow managed to inject an old time down home feeling into his concept of modern jazz piano playing.
One of the legends, Ray Bryant died June 2.

  1. I heard Bryant way back at the Newcastle Jazz Festival. Great player. Next day I bought the first of several his LPs.
