We all like a bargain and when that bargain is something for nothing we have a smile on our face. When the merchandise in question is Ruth Lambert and the Customs House Big Band then our face's beamingfulness is terrific.
Yes it's the first Tuesday in the month which means that the band hold their open rehearsal at the New Crown Hotel, South Shields. They kick off at 7:30pm for the rehearsal section during which time it is compelling stuff watching and listening to Peter Morgan put the band through their paces.
After a pause for refreshment - there is a good selection of real ale in the bar - the band then play a free concert with vocals by Ruth - and it's all for free as opposed to a tenner when they play the actual Customs House. So, with the tenner you've saved you can buy approx 4 real ales!
