Huey Long, until June 10 the last surviving member of the legendary vocal group The Inkspots, died on that day this week aged 105. As well as playing the distinctive guitar intros to the groups' records, Long also played on a number of sessions in the mid '40s with boppers such as Fats Navarro and Lockjaw Davis.
Not many jazz/show biz folk hang around for as long as Huey did. Perhaps "Long" was short for Longevity.
Lance.
